THREE CLIFFS
THREE CLIFFS
Fiona Alice published her first knitting book, Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey, with Pom Pom Press in 2015. Those patterns are now slowly becoming available as individual downloads for the first time.
Three Cliffs is a simple rectangle, long enough to wrap yourself up in, or wide enough to drape loosely around your shoulders. The slipped stitches create a geometric pattern throughout, but leave interesting negative space in the the reverse stocking stitch areas. Although the raised texture is the focus of attention, I think the background is equally important. Reverse stocking stitch is often underestimated, but I chose to have it reflect the pattern in the foreground so as to bring intrigue into the negative space as well. After all, without negative space there would be no patterns.
The original sample featured in the book was knit in John Arbon Textiles’ Viola. Fiona’s new sample is shown in Vuonue’s Pentti held together with:
Ito’s Sensai.

Notes: Three Cliffs was originally part of Fiona’s first book, Take Heart: A Transatlantic Knitting Journey, published by Pom Pom Press in 2015. The first sample and the one that is featured in Take Heart, was knit with John Arbon Textiles’ Viola.
The sample pictured in the single pattern, used Vuonue’s Pentti held together with Ito’s Sensai. The addition of the mohair lace altered the gauge slightly. Fiona has included both the original and current gauge. When Three Cliffs was published, it was only written in one length. This new sample was shortened slightly and those measurements have also been included. The length of the ribbing on both ends can easily be shortened or lengthened. Just remember to adjust your yardage accordingly.
This download contains two versions of the pattern, one for print and one that is mobile friendly.
