I thought a little recap of this past year's pattern releases would be fun. During 2017, I focused on publishing more than ever and the results was overwhelimg and higher than expected. In total, I published 15 new designs, the most in one year every for me. I had three new opportunities to work with yarn companies, plus one new knitwear magazine. It's been a year of hard work but well worth it. The new relationships developed with those in the industry have been a highlight. Continuing to connect with knitters through social media or at yarn festivals was also a big pleasure this year.
For this recap, I wanted to share a few photos from knitters all around the world. Thank you to those how dedicate their time to this craft and support my work by knitting, wearing or gifting that piece to someone special. This, is why I love to design.
JANUARY 2017 // FOG HARBOUR
Fog Harbour was featured in Quince & Co.'s collection Scarves, etc 6. This chunky cowl expored colourwork through unconventional techniques.
FORT GREY
Fort Grey, a pair of toe-up socks, were inspired by a trip to Guernsey Island. They were featured in Amirisu's Winter Issue 12.
MAY 2017 // SPARKLERS
This summer issue of Pom Pom Quarterly marked their fifth anniversary. Hurrah! Sparkers is a lightweight hat which is great for exploring fun and festive colours. The best thing about Spakerls, is that you can reverse the colours and knit one for your BFF!
AUGUST 2017 // BINSEY
August was a miles stone month for me. My first two sweater patterns were released in The Fibre Company's autumn collection, Fell Garth II. Binsey was an oversized pullover with really simple virtical and horizontal textures.
MIREHOUSE
Mirehouse was another pullover featured in Fell Garth II. A simple crewneck sweater with a geometrical pattern on the front created with knits and purls.
BARBICEL
Shortly after the release of the previous two sweater came the launch of Pom Pom Quarterly's Issue 22. Barbicel was my first cardigan design. Tiny blocks of colour cover the two front panels. This pattern reminds me of little apartment windows.
SEPTEMBER // VIRVA HAT
September was an insanely busy month, many publications launched their winter collections. Laine is a fairly new knitwear magazine based in Finland. My Virva Hat and Mitts set was my first pattern to be published with them. The hat begins with a brim of twisted ribbing which then turns into flower stems and buds encased in a dome like structure, as if being protected by a greenhouse or terrarium.
VIRVA FINGERLESS MITTS
The fingerless mitts feature a stacked variation of the same motif along the back of the hand while the underside is knit in twisted ribbing allowing the mitts to conform and hug the hands nicely.
GNEISS
Gneiss was published in Amirisu Issue 14 and was my first sweater design for this publication. The colour palette was a little brighter compared to what I use normally but i loved the finished looked. The sweater features 1x1 ribbing and reverse stocking stitch. The back requires a bit of Intarisa to combine these two textures.
BEDWELL HAT AND MITTENS
While attending Knit City in Vancouver last year, I had the pleasure to meet Hannalie who is behind Canadian yarn brand, Hinterland. Bedwell is a hat and mitten set which we collaborated on. This two colour texture only ever requires you to use one colour at a time, making it simple and a fun knit.
PINEHAVEN
Pinehaven is a cropped sweater with Herringbone sleeves, plus there's secret pockets! I'm currently torn between reknitting Pinehaven and Kinsac for myself.
KINSAC
Kinsac completes the four designs of my collaboration with Hinterland. More details can be found in my previous post about the Seafarer Collection.
OCTOBER 2017 // COAST MOUNTAINS
October marked the release of a few self-published patterns. I couldn't believe that a whole year nearly went by before I could get to my own work. I had been thinking about knitting these socks since my first visit to Vancouver to attend Knit City last year. I have no photos from others to share just yet.
CURIOUS CATS
Curious Cats was my most recent addition to my Woodland Gang patterns and knitting kits. They were an absolute hit when I launched them at KnitEast this year. I love seeing these little faces pop up on Instagram.
